Title: Elf Head
Artist Comments: This is the only surviving example of my first attempts at sculpting with polymer clay. I like to draw elves and other 'not human' creatures. Since I draw elves in such a different way, I wanted to try and sculpt one in 3-d just to see what it would really look like. I first built a "skull" from aluminum foil and plaster tape, then added the polymer clay "flesh." His eyes are glass drops. His hair is made of parts of an old wig that I cut apart. I used "Super Sculpey" polymer clay, not knowing that it is one of the most fragile types. Sadly, he has begun to crack and I know at some point he will come apart.
